Remoist gumming refers to a specific specialised version of gluing where adhesive gum is placed onto an area of a sheet of paper, it’s then “activated” by moistening it, typically by licking it and that becomes sticky and can be attached to another part of the same piece of paper. That’s right, that’s how licky envelopes work!
It has a couple of others names such as horseshoe gumming and goal post gumming because of the way it’s typically applied around fold-over reply slips.
There are a handful of applications outside of envelopes this kind of adhesive is used such as:
- Tear-off forms
- Meter readings
- Engineer leave-behinds
- Reply paid envelopes
- Folded leaflets
And other more niche applications. We handle remoist gumming processes completely in-house meaning you can have the stack of licky envelopes without having to worry about third-party suppliers folding, stop perfing, creasing, re-moist gumming, or seal closing because we do that in an all in one process.
